Homeless Liaison

Supporting the Success of Homeless Children and Youths

  • During the 2013-14 school year, more than 1.3 million homeless children and youths were enrolled in public schools. 
  • Since the 2006-2007 school year, the number of homeless children and youths enrolled in public schools has nearly doubled. 
  • The number of unaccompanied homeless youths (not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian) identified by schools has more than doubled to nearly 100,000 students.

 

If you are or someone you know are living in any of the following situations, you may be experiencing homelessness and there are resources to assist you. 

 

  • In an emergency or transitional shelter
  • Sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardships, or similar reasons
  • In a motel, hotel, camper, or car due to a lack of alternative adequate accommodations
  • In a park, public space, abandoned building, bus or train station or similar setting
  • In substandard housing (no heat/water/working toilet, pest infestation, holes to outside, tarp over roof, etc.)
  • Other places not designed for,  or ordinary used as a regular sleeping accommodation for a human being
  • Youth not living with a legal guardian otherwise known as an unaccompanied youth

  • Free/or Reduced lunch prices
  • Free backpack and school supplies
  • Free test for PSAT/SAT
  • Free or Reduced Membership to local YMCA
  • Back-to-School shoes in varying sizes
  • Coats, Hats,  and Gloves for colder weather
